Alternative Systems

If you do not have public sewer service, you will require an on-site wastewater treatment system on your property.  Historically this has been a conventional septic system consisting of a septic tank and leach lines.  However with increased concerns about
groundwater contamination and more restrictive regulations, soil or other site conditions often dictate the use of an “alternative” wastewater treatment system.   In many instances these must be designed by an engineer.

Alternative systems utilize various forms of aeration processes in order to provide a treatment level far superior to that provided by conventional septic systems.  This allows more options for effluent dispersal into the soil and significantly reduces threats to groundwater contamination.

There are many regulatory issues related to the design and installation of on-sitwastewater treatment systems.  The engineer’s task is to design a treatment system and compatible effluent dispersal method that satisfies the criteria established by state and county agencies and protects the environment.

An on-site wastewater treatment system is a significant investment and there usually are a number of options available for your consideration.  We can assist you in this complex and often confusing process.
